National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training Fact Sheet

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING CONFERENCE?

The National Youth Leadership Training is a seven day outdoor experience for current and future leaders of a Boy Scout Troop OR Venture Crew. The conference utilizes the standard structure using the patrol/team method. Patrol/team leadership changes daily to give all Scouts a chance to be a Leader or Assistant. The participants will write their own Vision Statement in which they will plan how to use their newly acquired skills in their home units. The Conference has been developed by the National Council B.S.A. and the Greater Western Reserve Council is the Host Council. The conference is the premier leadership training offered to Youth Leaders at the council level.

WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE?

The aims of the conference are to give each participant a basic knowledge of various leadership skills while helping them relate these skills to their own leadership responsibilities; to give them the confidence and knowledge necessary to run their unit program; to provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences with Scouts from other units; and of course, to have FUN!

Also to be eligible attend, a Boy Scout must be at least First Class in rank and thirteen years old by the start of the course; a Venture member must be between the ages of 14 and 17 during the course.
